I’m a Texan, and I love the state I live in. Texas has a little bit of everything. Oceans, lakes, mountains, plains, dry barren landscapes, and lush wooded areas. I live in northern Texas, about twenty miles from the Oklahoma border, and about three miles away from the nearest I-35 onramp.
My pathetic little town conveniently straddles the interstate, and it’s a pretty good reason for living here. Unfortunately, a little project called the Trans-Texas Corridor might put my little town in jeopardy. See why after the jump.
You see, our governor, Rick “Helmet Hair” Perry, has a concept. A big-ass highway with somewhere along the lines of sixteen lanes of traffic, truck lanes, bus lanes, and a railroad carved down the middle of the state, from Gainesville to Laredo. Some of you may be thinking that this is a great idea, and are wondering why I’m whining about this. Well, this massive project needs money. Tax money. It also needs land. Taxpayer’s land. See where I’m headed with this? Also, a look at the prospective route map has me worried.
Get my point? Yeah, my house, along with probably many others, will most likely lie in the path of the at powder blue line, and would be taken away from us via the legal clusterfuck that is eminent domain. Now the regular blue line to the east is the preferred route by the DOT, and would be great for me, but I also know many people who live there as well who would be equally pissed off.
I could talk about this a whole lot more, and expect a lot more talk of this in the future. In the meantime, if you live in Texas and have something to say about this go ahead and comment. I’d be glad to hear it.
